Are you trying to decide where to take the family this weekend? A trip to the museum could be the perfect choice. At Hank Graff Chevrolet, we have some of the best museums in the state just a short drive away. We’ve selected three of our favorites near Davison, MI.

Flint Institute of Arts

The Flint Institute of Arts prides itself on being the second-largest art museum in the state, with a huge treasure trove of art from various cultures and time periods. Their permanent collection has artworks dating from the 15th century onwards, including paintings, sculptures, textiles, and carvings. We love the glass galleries at the institute, and the contemporary ceramics are also very impressive.

As well as its fine permanent collection, the institute also hosts regular guest exhibitions of artworks from around the world, so there is always a reason to pay a return visit. If you enjoy seeing glass being made, the artisan glassblowers give fascinating demonstrations of their craft to visitors. To complete your visit, there is a well-stocked gift shop and cafe. The Flint Institute of Arts is at 1120 E Kearsley St.

Longway Planetarium

The Longway Planetarium first opened its doors in June 1958 and has been delighting the public ever since. The viewing dome is 88 feet in diameter and 40 feet high, making the view from inside an epic experience. The 4K projectors and the 7.1 surround sound system add to the feeling of immersion. The planetarium has a number of different shows, which last approximately 45 minutes each.

As you would expect, many shows feature the wonders of the night sky, but there are also sci-fi, fantasy, and documentary presentations. Longway Planetarium also puts on a spectacular laser light show, and the trivia nights are enjoyed by visitors of all ages. You can purchase an intergalactic souvenir of your visit from the planetarium’s gift shop. The Longway Planetarium can be found at 1310 E Kearsley St.

Sloan Museum of Discovery

The Sloan Museum of Discovery is located across the road from its sister organization, the Longway Planetarium, which makes it easy to combine a visit to both. The museum is divided up into four parts: the Discovery Hall Science Gallery, the History Gallery, the Durant Vehicle Gallery, and the Early Childhood Learning Gallery. Each one has its own individual character.

We love the interactive, hands-on nature of the exhibits here, which will appeal to younger members of your family. The vintage cars that are on display are kept in beautiful condition by the museum’s curators. For an afternoon immersed in science and local history, the Sloan Museum of Discovery is a great choice. You can find the museum at 1221 E Kearsley St.
