Any exercise you enjoy is good exercise. However, there is something special about hiking. Both exercise and sunlight are great for your health, and we love living in Davison, MI, partly due to the number of incredible great hiking trails nearby. Today, we are looking at our favorite trails that are within driving distance of this beautiful city.

1. Black Creek Nature Trail

One of our favorite trails is Black Creek Nature Trail in Jack N. Abernathy Regional Park at 402 Dayton St. This beautiful asphalt greenway is great for hiking and many other outdoor activities, including biking and inline skating. After winding through the woods for 1.6 miles, this nature trail ends at Davison Township Municipal Center.

2. Richfield County Park

If you want a quick, easy hike, you can’t go wrong with the 2.6-mile hiking trail at Richfield County Park at 6322 N Irish Rd. The main trail is paved which is great for parents with strollers. If you want a longer hike, there are dirt trails you can explore off of the main trail. Besides hiking, we love coming to Richfield County Park for:

  • Dog walking
  • Biking
  • Bird watching

3. Applewood Trail

We also love parking at Kearsley Park south of Ohio Avenue at Kearsley Park Boulevard to access Applewood Trail. This trail has a lot more to offer than its 1.8 mile length suggests. It follows Gilkey Creek until it meets the river, and you can stop and rest at Dayton Park if you want to.

This is also a great trail for biking; if you follow this trail as far north as it goes, you will be able to access the Flint River Trail system. Cyclists love the Flint River Trail system because it features 27 miles of multipurpose paved trails. You can enjoy this trail system on foot, but it is better for biking if you want to see as much as possible in one day.

4. Bay City State Park

You should also consider driving to Bay City State Park at 3582 State Park Dr. and checking out some of the trails you can access from there. One of the most popular trails here is the Bay City-Tobico Marsh Trail. It features two four-story observation points that provide great views of the Tobico Marsh. The Bay City-Andersen Nature Trail is also popular.

The Davison area is full of great trails for hiking, but you need a reliable vehicle to access them. If you have had problems with your current car recently, a 2024 Chevy Equinox may be ideal for your household. To take it for a test drive, visit us at Hank Graff Chevrolet
