Gearing Up for a Safe Drive: Packing Your SUV

How you pack your car for a road trip can be just as important as getting it regularly serviced in preventing an accident or injury. It is never a good idea to overload your car beyond its capacity. Smaller SUVs should not exceed 900 pounds of weight generally, which includes passengers and cargo. If you pack too many heavy items in your car, you are at risk for wearing down the tires.

If you do have heavy items, be sure that they are close to the floor and near the front end of the car. This takes the weight off of the back tires and allows for more control over steering. It also helps keep the weight close to the ground for preventing a rollover. All bags should be away from the rear window so that you can see other cars and people.

Our staff at Hank Graff Chevrolet can help take care of all your maintenance needs before your next trip.
